Every line on your quote, in plain English.
Most dealer quotes use the same handful of lines. Here is what each one is and whether it moves.
The main number. Compare it to what the same model, trim and miles sell for near you.
A markup on top of the sticker, also called ADM. Often the first line to challenge.
Nitrogen, VIN etching, paint or fabric protection, appearance packages. You can ask for them to come off.
Set by the dealer and varies widely. Ask for it in writing before you visit so it is in the out-the-door number.
Set by the manufacturer on new cars and printed on the window sticker.
Set by your state and county. Check the math against your ZIP code.
Get it valued on its own, before or apart from the new car price.
Offered in the finance office after you agree on price. You can say no to every one.

Is your quote really clean?
Got a dealer quote in your hand? Tick every line that sounds familiar. Each one is a spot where money tends to leak. Then send it to us and our team will look it over free.
Six things to do before you visit.
Do these and most dealer games stop working.
- Get pre-approved by your bank or credit union so you have a rate to compare
- Ask for the out-the-door price in writing, not a monthly payment
- Get your trade-in valued on its own, apart from the new car
- Ask which add-ons are already installed and which can come off
- Read the buyer's order line by line before you sign
- Remember warranties, GAP and service plans are always optional
